Z241 Presentation to Regional District Central Kootenays
In the Spring newsletter, the Board advised the MHABC is taking action to address a prohibition on new CSA Z241 homes into the Regional District Central Kootenays. The Board has requested the opportunity to make a presentation at an upcoming RDCK Board meeting. A delegation request has now been granted with MHABC representatives able to present to the RDCK on October 20th in Nelson.
The MHABC continues to work closely with our marketing firm FRESH INC in promoting the industry through MHABC.com and engaging in other opportunities to highlight the benefits of factory-built housing. FRESH INC recently “refreshed” the website with a new background and reformatting.
FRESH INC also provides marketing services to our sister association for the Prairies Provinces and is advocating a joint project involving our affiliated trade associations across Canada in establishing a relationship with the charitable organization Habitat for Humanity.
The MHABC Board will work with FRESH INC and the other associations towards determining how such a relationship could work and the associated costs. If a suitable strategy can be reached, the Board could consider funding options within the 2017-18 budget.
Tiny Homes Industry Involvement
In the Spring News Letter, the Board reported on an invitation to participate in a Tiny Homes Expo held on July 8-9 in Chilliwack. MHABC President Weicker and staff did participate in event and spoke with many of the 1,500 plus attendees. The key message to those stopping by booth was to focus on manufacturers who conform with established standards, namely CSA A277 or CSA Z240. As a result of participation at this event, the MHABC has been asked to continue engagement with this emerging industry.
A group of potential home owners is moving forward to establish a BC Tiny House Collective to promote favourable legislation and policy. The MHABC Board has agreed to work in an advisory capacity and will monitor progress towards helping this industry ensure public safety is a highest priority. More Information on the collective can be obtained at bctinyhousecollective.com
Factory-Built Home Transportation Policy Pending

The Board was provided an opportunity to review a preliminary draft of the reworked Section 4.3 and has provided comments. The MHABC understands the revised section has now gone to graphics and will be released in the near future. On Pilot Car Guidelines and the OnRoute, it is anticipated distribution will happen this fall.
